Taking place at Gotham Hall in New York City, the black-tie affair will be hosted by actress Taraji P. Henson, with performances by Muni Long and DJ D-Nice. Honorees: Driving Change and Inspiration

LaTosha Brown: A Force for Transformation

LaTosha Brown, recognized for her impactful work, founded the Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium in 2017. Brown firmly believes that "if you change the life of a Black girl, you change the world." Her organization has directed over $10.2 million to more than 220 Black women-led organizations, sparking significant social change. As a co-founder of the Black Voters Matter Fund, Brown has also contributed to efforts aimed at increasing voter participation among Black communities.

"LaTosha embodies the spirit of radical possibility that the Pete & Thomas Foundation seeks to celebrate," stated Chanceé Lundy, the Executive Director of the Consortium. Brown has not only served as a fellow at Harvard’s Institute of Politics but has also developed educational programs to enhance Southern women’s leadership effectiveness. Her advocacy spans across the United States and beyond, underscoring her commitment to social justice and cultural transformation.

Mila Henry: From Joy Grant Recipient to Mental Health Advocate

At just 12 years old, Mila Henry embodies the positive impact of investing in young Black girls. Awarded a grant through the #BlackGirlJoyChallenge, a collaboration between the Pete & Thomas Foundation and Brown’s organization, Mila launched her nonprofit, MH Boxes, in January 2024. This initiative provides mental health care packages specifically tailored to the needs of Black girls, addressing a critical gap in mental health resources.

"Mila exemplifies why we invest in Black girls’ dreams," said Brown. "When we provide resources and believe in their visions, we witness the creation of solutions that address real community needs." Now 13, Mila continues her advocacy, ensuring that support for mental health remains inclusive and accessible. Her work stands as a testament to how the #BlackGirlJoyChallenge is inspiring actionable solutions led by those who understand the needs of their communities.

A Partnership with Purpose

The Pete & Thomas Foundation, established in 2022 in memory of Megan Thee Stallion’s late parents, has been integral to the #BlackGirlJoyChallenge, which has reached over 800 girls with community-driven projects. "LaTosha and Mila represent two generations of visionaries," Lundy remarked, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in effecting change. "This gala honors the power of partnership and what’s possible when we fund the future of Black girls at every stage of their leadership journey."

Conclusion: Significance and Impact

The gala not only highlights the achievements of its honorees but also serves as a rallying point for communities and supporters of Black girls. By focusing on equitable access to resources and opportunities, the partnership between the Pete & Thomas Foundation and the Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium aims to inspire a new generation of leaders. The event not only celebrates individual accomplishments but also underscores the need for continued advocacy and investment in the futures of Black girls.
